Summary 2021 — Delaware
State Contact
Innovative Programming Conducted and Educational Resources Developed
We were able to start the year using the book, "How Did That Get in My Lunch Box" by Chris Butterworth. During our presentation we talk about careers in agriculture, how food gets from the farm to their table, the importance of healthy eating by discussing the five food groups, and how farming successes and failures affect the economy. We have hands on-activities showing the different types of soil, how to pack a healthy lunch, and last we have them plant a radish seed in a cup for them to take home to see what it is like to grow their own food. These topics align with 5-LS1 of the Next Generation Science Standards, and 5.NF of the Common Core State Standard for Mathematics. Once everything shut down with COVID we have just used Facebook as a means for tools due to short staff in the office that took most of my attention.
