Innovative Programming

Through the Delaware Farm Bureau (DEFB) Foundation's mission, we incorporate various Ag In The Classroom (AITC) curriculum and lessons. The DEFB Foundation has a Mobile Ag Lab that goes out to summer camps, schools and community events to educate students, primarily elementary-aged students, on the importance of Delaware agriculture, where their food comes from and how it is grown, the five food groups, and different careers and pathways students can explore within the agricultural industry.

As we look to fill the DEFB Foundation Coordinator position, we are also working to revamp the position to allow more time and staff resources to be allocated to the AITC program.

Looking ahead, the Delaware Farm Bureau received a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant in 2024, which will allow us to construct "Specialty Crop Crates" to provide to teachers and educators in an effort to increase the presence of Delaware agriculture in Delaware elementary classrooms.

Major Program Impacts or Outcomes

In 2023, our Mobile Ag Lab attended 10 different summer camps and community events and educated the public about Delaware agriculture. Through the summer camps, we spoke to over 200 kids about agriculture and even had them plant a crop of their own to take home, so they could experience what is like to grow their own food.

Program Leader Biosketch

I have an MBA in Marketing Management from Goldey Beacom College and have been working at the Delaware Farm Bureau, as their Marketing Coordinator, for close to four years. I am serving as the AITC state coordinator while we are working to revamp and fill the position.

Although I do not have a background in agriculture, I am very passionate about the industry and am always eager to learn more and further my skills.
