Education Programs


The Delaware Department of Agriculture provides a wide range of educational programs for both students and adults to improve the public’s understanding and appreciation of agriculture.
 

Student and Teachers

The Department of Agriculture offers multiple programs to help foster and increase agricultural literacy for Delaware’s students. These programs include:

The Forest Service provides several educational opportunities to help students learn more Delaware’s forest and related resources. These programs include:

 

Nutrient Management

Nutrient Management Education Program will help individuals either become certified under Delaware’s Nutrient Management Program or maintain their certification. The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension offers a variety of educational programs.
 

Food Safety

The Food Products Inspection Section offers training on the Fundamentals of Meat and Poultry Processing to commercial food processors and preparers.
 

Firefighting

The Delaware Forest Service works with the Delaware Fire School, local fire companies, and the United States Forest Service to train Delaware firefighters in Wildland Fire Suppression Techniques, including a two-day training camp every spring. All firefighters mobilized on the national level must be qualified by the National Wildlife Coordinating Group (NWCG).
 

Beekeeping

A series of beekeeper courses are presented annually by the State Apiarist, the Delaware Beekeepers Association, the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension (UD), and Delaware State University (DSU). These courses teach beekeeping skills from the beginner to advanced levels.
 

Animals

Exotic Animals: Poultry and Animal Health staff are available to answer questions about ownership and breeding of exotic animals.
