Classroom Resources

Designed, printed and started initial distribution of a series of student learn sheets (similar to an Ag Mag) with information/activities promoting the new School Meal Pattern categories of: milk, vegetables, fruit, grains and meats & meat alternatives.

Curriculum writing of two (2) Buy Nevada units for 9-10 grade covering agriculture production, economics, markets, exporting, marketing and branding, sales and application of each within Nevada's food and agriculture industry.

Major Program Accomplishments or Outputs

In 2015, Nevada AITC is proud to have partnered with a number of organizations and volunteers to deliver agriculture literacy events/activities. Highlights included participating in Ag Days at 7 elementary schools across the state. New in 2015 was the opportunity for AITC staff to go to two of these schools in advance of the Ag Day to introduce the teachers to AITC and distribute curriculum and educational resources for implementation leading up to the Ag Day event. Additionally Nevada AITC participated in 17 public and educational events to promote AITC, the curriculum matrix, Nevada specific resources and Nevada’s food and agriculture industry. Major projects in 2015 included: - The design and printing of the school meal pattern learn sheets which were written in 2014. - Initial curriculum writing of two units for high school 9- 10 grades as an introduction to agriculture and its relevance in Nevada. - Collaboration with a school district and volunteers to design and plan a teacher in-service training to be conducted in 2016.

Biosketch

Amber grew up in southern Idaho, as the daughter of an agricultural educator and raising sugar beets and potatoes. This created a lifelong passion for agriculture and education. After obtaining a bachelor's of science degree in Agricultural Education, Amber worked for the National FFA Organization. While with FFA she obtained a Master's of Public Affairs from Indiana University at IUPUI. Amber is excited to be in Nevada and promoting agricultural literacy!
